SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Lummi Nation resident who’s implicated in the overdose death of a fellow tribal member was arraigned in federal court on Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd says 29-year-old Stephan Charlot has pleaded not guilty to distributing fentanyl on tribal land.

Court documents state that a woman died of a fentanyl overdose at her home on the reservation in May 2025.

Investigators used her phone data to track down the person who brought her the fentanyl, which led them to Charlot.

The cell phone evidence also suggested that Charlot had sold fentanyl in other instances besides that one.

Authorities later found that he had multiple prior tribal charges for dealing drugs and several warrants for failing to appear in court.

Charlot was arrested by Lummi Nation Police in June and put in tribal custody until he was taken into federal custody earlier this month.

His trial is scheduled for April 6.
