The Lummi Island Ferry will be out of service for an extended period of time this spring.

Whatcom County Public Works says the Whatcom Chief will undergo a two-week dry dock outage between April 18 and May 16.

The specific dates are currently unknown as the county searches for potential shipyards to submit bids.

Public Works will offer pedestrian-only ferry service during the annual dry dock outage.

Specific outage dates are expected to be announced after the county decides on a bidder in early March.
