SUMAS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents impacted by recent floodwaters now have a new avenue to recoup lost revenue.

The City of Sumas says that the federal Small Business Administration has formally categorized December’s historic flooding as a disaster. That means they’ll be offering low-interest disaster loans for anyone who dealt with an economic setback due to the floods.

Despite what the federal agency’s name suggests, homeowners, renters, and even some non-profits are eligible to apply.

Sumas city officials opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Sumas Advent Christian Church on Thursday, Feb. 26 for those who need assistance filling out applications.

The deadline to apply for physical damage loans is April 27, while any loan applications dealing with business economic damage is due by Nov. 24.
