BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Local law enforcement is warning residents of another text scam circulating around the state.
Blaine Police are among several agencies urging people to be wary of the texts, which come from seemingly random numbers.
The messages claim recipients will face a variety of penalties if they don’t pay off a phony traffic ticket.
Many of the scammers identify themselves as the Washington State Department of Motor Vehicles, even though Washington doesn’t have a DMV.
Authorities say the Department of Licensing, or any governmental agency for that matter, will never send messages like these to make urgent payments.
Anyone who receives the scam texts are encouraged to report it to the FTC.
