BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The weather is starting to cool off a little in Whatcom County. It should be perfect for festivals, camping or whatever else you plan on doing this holiday weekend. We’ve got you covered in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.
It is Labor Day weekend and that means it is time for the North Cascades Bluegrass Festival in Deming.
The two-day festival runs Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31 and features acts like Roosevelt Road, Jackson Hollow, Burnett Sisters Band, Kruger Brothers and more. There will also be workshops for aspiring musicians and bluegrass fans all weekend long.
Festival tickets and camping passes can be purchased on the North Cascades Bluegrass Festival’s website.
We are expecting perfect camping weather this weekend, so if you are looking to get away for a couple of days, look no further than the North Cascades. An hour east of Bellingham, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest offers a couple pristine campgrounds to enjoy.
Douglas Fir Campground offers heavily wooded sites on the banks of the north fork of the Nooksack River. If you have not spent a night or two at this iconic campground, now is the time. Many sites are reserved but a few have been set aside for “first come, first served” campers.
A little further up the Mount Baker Highway is the Silver Fir Campground. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the spot for you. A couple sites are still available, but you will want to get there early to claim your spot.
There are also a bunch of camping options along Highway 20 and in the North Cascades National Park. Swing by the North Cascades National Park information center in Marblemount or go to their website to check on availability.
