OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new effort is underway to repeal the state’s so-called “millionaire’s tax.”

Let’s Go Washington (LGW) announced on Friday, May 8, that it has received initiative ballot titles for several attempts it’s making to repeal the tax.

The political action committee expects to begin the signature gathering process within the next month, after any legal challenges to the ballot titles are resolved. It would need around 400,000 signatures before the July 2 deadline.

The group still hasn’t decided whether it plans to place the initiative on this year’s November general election ballot or send it to the state Legislature, which would likely put it before voters in 2027.

A spokesperson for LGW tells My Bellingham Now that it expects the ballot titles to be challenged in the coming days.

It comes after other opponents of the tax filed a lawsuit last month challenging its constitutionality, which they expect to be heard by the state Supreme Court later this year.

The proposed initiative by LGW would be separate from a referendum, which the court recently ruled could not be done.
