OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A judge has ordered an end to a major prediction market’s operations in our state.

Attorney General Nick Brown’s office says that the King County Superior Court judge found Kalshi likely violated the Washington Gambling Act. In the final order issued on August 13th, Kalshi is prohibited from accepting or promoting most wagers on its platform. Those include wagers on sports, elections, or words predicted in major speeches.

The company has also been ordered to implement a geofence around the state by early September to prevent people in Washington from accessing the app. A geofence restricts or allows IP addresses operating within the state to access certain web-based platforms.

The order follows a preliminary injunction last month that placed a temporary ban on Kalshi’s activities in Washington. AG Brown filed the lawsuit against Kalshi in March.
