REDMOND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A challenge to the state’s new “millionaire’s tax” appears to be heading to the voters this fall.

Let’s Go Washington founder Brian Heywood said they’ve gathered nearly 100,000 signatures for their new initiative in the first week of the process.

The political action committee needs roughly 400,000 signatures by July 2 to place the tax repeal on the November general election ballot.

LGW Communications Director Hallie Herzberg tells My Bellingham Now that they fully expect to reach that number.

Gov. Bob Ferguson acknowledged in a statement on X that the initiative will likely go to the voters and says he looks forward to the public having a say in the policy.

Meanwhile, the state Supreme Court is expected to hear a separate challenge to the tax’s constitutionality later this year.
