ALGER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Your commute is about to get busier on I-5 this weekend.

WSDOT will reduce both directions of the freeway down to a single lane near Alger starting at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 10. The northbound on-ramp from Lake Samish Rd in Alger will also close for about a month.

Crews will be installing temporary crossover roads in preparation for a fish passage project that will run underneath the main freeway. WSDOT is advising drivers to use Hwy 9 or Chuckanut Drive as detours, but commercial traffic and semi-trucks are strongly urged to use Hwy 9.

Work on this stretch of I-5 will be on hold during the World Cup between June 12 and July 8.
