FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man’s death in Ferndale is being investigated by federal authorities.

Homeland Security says that the man’s body was found near BNSF rail tracks at an undisclosed location in Ferndale on June 20.

Investigators are working to determine whether the man, whose name and nationality has not been made public, was brought into the U.S. from Canada illegally.

Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer notes that human smuggling attempts across the northern Washington border have spiked in the past few months.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact Homeland Security’s tipline at 877-4-HSI-TIP.
