BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Orcas Island’s historic Rosario Resort will cease all operations on Monday, Feb. 19 as new owners prepare to take over the property.

The San Juan Islander reports the property sold for $5.45 million at auction before additional fees. The entire resort will close on Feb. 29.

Christopher Peacock, who serves as the general manager at Rosario, announced in a letter to employees that all current workers at the resort, including himself, are being permanently let go.

Peacock says that the new owners will begin a major renovation of the historic Moran Mansion that will close the restaurant, spa, museum and all other facilities in the mansion.

The marina, marina family pool, grounds and all lodging will eventually reopen on April 1.

The Moran Mansion, listed on the National Historic Register, was first built between 1906 and 1909 by shipbuilder and former Seattle Mayor Robert Moran as his retreat from professional stresses in the city. The property became a resort in 1960 and was purchased by Olympus Real Estate Partners in 1998. Olympus owned the resort until selling it in 2024.
