WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – High winds could knock out power in our area over the next couple of days.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for western Whatcom and Skagit counties from 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, until 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 12.

Southwest winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Gusts could blow down tree limbs and power outages may occur.

Ferry sailings out of Anacortes could also be either delayed or canceled by the high winds. Residents should secure any unsecured objects on their property.

And another reminder that the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit counties are under several winter weather advisories through Saturday, March 14.

A blizzard warning has been issued overnight through 5 a.m. Thursday, March 12, with a winter storm warning beginning that morning and extending through 5 am Saturday. Snow accumulations could reach up to 4 feet over the next couple of days with high winds up to 55 mph in the mountains.

The NWS advises that travel during those times should be restricted to emergencies only.
