BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington state is offering a new certification aimed at giving a boost to LGBTQ-owned businesses.

Gov. Bob Ferguson says the free LGBTQ Business Enterprise program will help connect eligible business owners with valuable government contracts.

The Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE) will track spending with LGBTQ-owned firms starting in 2026.

Director Lekha Fernandes says Washington is among the first states to offer such a program, calling it a step toward improving equity in public spending.

To qualify, LGBTQ+ individuals must own at least 51% of the business, manage daily operations and meet certain financial requirements.

You can find out if your business is eligible and how to apply on the OMWBE website.
