OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington state has a series of new laws designed to address housing problems in the state.

Gov. Bob Ferguson signed seven bills into law Friday that focused on housing.

One such bill that the governor requested himself allows housing in commercial and mixed-use zones.

Other bills create a statewide standard for supportive and transitional housing and changes some state regulations around affordable housing.

Everett nonprofit Housing Hope CEO Kathryn Opina spoke ahead of the signing on the ground floor of their affiliate building HopeWorks Station…

“At Housing Hope, we see firsthand how complex and costly it can be to bring affordable housing to life,” she said. “These changes will help simplify that process and allow organizations like ours to serve more people more efficiently.”

KGMI previously reported about SB 6237, which would make it so landlords need to disclose flood risk and resources for flood insurance.

The governor also signed that bill along with one that would allow ADU construction in rural communities.
