LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A former Lynden High School girls’ wrestling coach has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a former student.

51-year-old Santos Rodriguez Gallegos pled guilty to a third-degree rape charge in November, according to court documents.

The assault occurred in December 2020 during a small gathering with some of his former wrestling students at a home in Lynden.

Gallegos will spend the next 6 months in prison followed by a year of community supervision.

The Lynden Tribune reports that Gallegos began coaching the Lynden High School’s girls’ wrestling program in 2011.

He remained the head coach of the team until his initial arrest in early 2021.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic/sexual violence, call 800-656-HOPE (4673) to reach the National Sexual Assault Hotline.
