DEMING, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A woman survived a roughly 150-foot fall at a nearby waterfall last week.

Whatcom Fire District 14 said on social media on Sept. 11 that firefighters had responded to the report of a person who fell at Racehorse Falls the previous afternoon at 2 p.m. on Sept. 10.

They arrived to find a woman who had fallen between 50 and 60 feet before tumbling another 100 feet down a slippery and rocky slope.

District 14’s crews rappelled down to her location and managed to place her in a litter to be lifted out of the canyon. From there, she was carried another third of a mile out of the trail and a Bellingham Fire medic unit provided care for her serious injuries during transportation.

District 14 says this is the fifth high-angle rescue at Racehorse Falls this year and the most serious. They urge people to be careful when exploring the outdoors, especially around cliff edges.
