SUMAS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The deadline is approaching for Whatcom County residents to receive in-person help with the fallout from last December’s flooding.
FEMA’s Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) in Sumas is set to close after Friday, July 10.
The center has been helping people with FEMA applications and Small Business Administration (SBA) loans at the Sumas Advent Christian Church since late April.
Staff there can also help answer questions about federal and state assistance for both English and non-English speakers.
FEMA aid can help pay for temporary housing, displacement, home repair costs, personal property loss and other expenses caused by the flooding.
FEMA applications were due in June, but the agency is still accepting late applications up to 60 days from the June 10 deadline. In addition to help filling those applications out, the DAC can help with checking applications status, uploading required documentation and answering appeals questions.
After Friday, help from FEMA will only be available by phone or online.
The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 125 Front St.
