Fatal Axton Rd crash victim and suspect identified

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bail has been set for the suspect accused of causing a fatal crash east of Ferndale.

Court documents state that 28-year-old Dale Alderman Jr made his initial appearance in Whatcom County Superior Court on Friday.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the suspect is accused of blowing through a four-way stop and smashing into another car at Northwest Dr and Axton Rd early Thursday.

The second driver, identified by the Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office as 61-year-old Mark Holmquist of Lynden, was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic pathologist has not yet determined Holmquist’s cause of death.

The suspect, Alderman Jr., remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $500,000 bail.
