A super-sprint is the shortest official triathlon distance, made up of a roughly quarter-mile swim, six-mile bike ride and a mile-and-a-half long run.

Hunger says he wasn’t fully satisfied, even after blowing past the previous record of 54.

“It was a little short of what my goal number was … but I’m pretty stoked that we were able to put a dent in that record,” Hunger said.

Hunger says his campaign has raised around $400,000 for the Bellingham Food Bank so far this year, but the impact of his annual fundraiser has far surpassed that over its six years.

“Since I started, we passed $1 million this year,” Hunger said. “That was, when I started fundraising, such a pipe dream to ever even come close to that number.”

Guinness World Records is still in the process of verifying Hunger’s recent feat.
