PUGET SOUND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW)  announced on Friday, Sept. 27, that several marine areas in Puget Sound are reopening for crabbing in October.

Some of the areas included in the reopening are Bellingham and the San Juan Islands.

Crabbing will be allowed each day from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. WDFW says the reopenings are due to favorable catch records from a “productive” summer season and the expected harvest during the winter.

The daily limit in Puget Sound is five Dungeness crabs that have to be males in hard-shell condition. Crabbers can also keep six red rock crabs of either sex and six Tanner crabs of either sex per day.

All recreational crabbers 15 years or older must carry a current Washington state fishing license.

Crabbers can find more information about the rules for crabbing on the WDFW website.
