WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Watch out for some coastal flooding over the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for San Juan County and the lowlands of western Whatcom County from 5 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3.

It’s expected to be minor flooding, but could reach up to two and a half feet above ground level along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas.

That advisory is upgraded to a flood watch on Sunday morning, when potentially “significant” coastal flooding could reach up to three feet.

Forecasters say the flooding could cause some road closures, and residents are encouraged to take necessary action to protect any flood-prone property.
