SUMAS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Sumas has issued a flood warning as it warns residents to be ready to evacuate.

The city is urging residents to gather any items they may need in case of an evacuation order. They’re also being advised to keep a list of emergency contact numbers and check on friends and neighbors.

Residents should be ready to shut off their gas, electric and water mains, but should not try to shut off their electric if they’re in standing water.

Those who need sandbags can pick them up at the City Shop on Kneuman Road until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Anyone who is physically unable to leave their homes in the event of an evacuation order can call emergency services at 360-599-2823 to get help.

The city will continue to send mobile alerts and update its website with the latest developments.
