BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new structure has popped up near the Port of Bellingham and it is for the birds.

The Port announced the installation of its new Osprey nesting platform near the working waterfront area.

Ospreys typically build their nests on tall structures, and the Port wanted to deter the birds from using industrial cranes as their breeding grounds.

The Port said it collaborated with the local birding community to design the platform.
