BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Ramped up drug patrols have proven successful in downtown Bellingham just hours ahead of a major announcement by the mayor.

Police say that officers found drugs on a suspect they were arresting on felony warrants Tuesday morning.

Around the same time, officers clearing an illegal campsite near Whatcom Creek found additional narcotics. The suspected meth and fentanyl found between both sites are now being tested.

Hours later, Mayor Kim Lund announced her executive order prompting a heavier response to the fentanyl crisis.
