SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Alaska Airlines reported a revenue loss of $132 million in the first quarter of 2024.

The Seattle-based airline said in a press release Friday that the results were “significantly impacted” by the door panel blowout on a Boeing 737 Max 9 jetliner in January.

The incident was followed by an order from the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) that grounded all Max 9s in the United States for three weeks.

Alaska Airlines received $162 million in compensation from Boeing to address the financial damages it suffered from grounding flights.

Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci said that, despite the challenges, the company’s first-quarter results “far exceeded initial expectations.”
