BRIEF: 84th Plowing Match canceled following sudden death of repeat champion

LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An annual event showcasing our region’s premier plowers will not be taking place this year.

The NW WA Fair announced the 84th International Plowing Match, which was set to take place this Saturday, has been cancelled.

Organizers made the decision following the unexpected passing of Craig Shagren on Monday, May 11. Shagren was a six-time International Plowing Match champion, having won most recently in 2013. The Shagren family has been showing their Belgian draft horses at fairs all over the region for decades.

Memorial services for Craig Shagren have yet to be announced.
