The Seahawks have locked down another one of their stars to a long-term deal.

The team announced today that they’ve agreed to a three-year extension with 3x Pro Bowl defensive tackle Leonard Williams.

ESPN reports the deal is worth $90 million, with $56 million guaranteed.

The extension will keep the 32-year-old, affectionately known as “Big Cat,” in Seattle through the 2029 season. He now becomes the fifth-highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.

It caps off an offseason that saw the Seahawks also give extensions to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, cornerback Devon Witherspoon and edge rusher Derick Hall.

 

The team is playing their final preseason game against the Chiefs tomorrow night in Kansas City.

Coach Mike Macdonald says they won’t be playing any starters, as was the case with their other preseason games. But this time, second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe will play the entire game.

The Mariners have the day off today as they get set for a six-game road trip out East.

It starts in Toronto tomorrow with three games against the Blue Jays before heading to Boston for three against the Red Sox. Tomorrow will be the M’s first game back in Toronto since their Game 7 loss in last year’s ALCS.

The Mariners are coming off a successful homestand that saw them go 4-2 against two of the National League’s best teams in the Cubs and Phillies. Seattle currently sits two and a half games behind Houston for first place in the AL West, but that will change tonight, with the Astros set to play their series finale against the Yankees.

Emerson Hancock and the M’s will be up against a tough test tomorrow, when they face AL Cy Young favorite Dylan Cease and the Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, the Mariners skipped out on a chance to reunite with a former fan favorite.

The Athletic reported that the Cincinnati Reds placed slugger Eugenio Suarez on outright waivers yesterday. But the outlet reported today that Suarez went unclaimed and will remain with the Reds.

It came as “Geno” hit a grand slam as part of Cincy’s seven-run ninth inning to stun the Giants 10-9 last night.

Storm News

The Storm snapped their latest losing streak last night.

They beat the Toronto Tempo 90-78 at Climate Pledge to end a three-game skid. Rookie Flau’jae Johnson scored a team-high 20 points and All-Star Dominique Malonga added 18.

It continued recent struggles for the Tempo, who have lost 14 of their last 15.

The Storm still have the worst record in the league with just eight wins to their name this season and only five games remaining.

They’ll continue their homestand on Sunday when they face the LA Sparks. It will be an emotional return to Seattle for former Storm star and current Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike, who recently announced her plans to retire at the end of the year after 13 seasons in the league.

Western’s fall sports season is kicking off today.

The Vikings’ soccer teams are playing a doubleheader at Harrington Field to open their schedule. The 18th nationally-ranked women are playing Hawai’i Hilo at 4:00 before the men take the pitch at 7 against Chico State.

Meanwhile, the Viks’ 20th nationally-ranked volleyball team is facing a tough match in Ellensburg against No. 4 Point Loma at 4:00. They’ll continue their path through the Central Washington University Invitational tomorrow when they face Chaminade at 1:30 pm.
