BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham man accused of trying to kill his roommate has had his case dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
Jail records state that 20-year-old Alexis Molina was released from the Whatcom County Jail on Tuesday.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that Molina was charged with attempted murder in November 2024 after his roommate was shot several times just as he was walking to their apartment. The roommate was hospitalized but later recovered from his injuries.
Police served a search warrant on the apartment and found a gun that matched shell casings found at the scene of the shooting.
According to court documents, a judge ruled in July that police served the warrant without establishing probable cause of Molina’s involvement. That ruling invalidated the search warrant and nullified all evidence that was found as a result of it, including the gun.
Molina’s case was dismissed without prejudice on Tuesday, meaning it could be refiled in the future.
His release came after spending nearly nine months in jail.
