BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A major move is on the horizon for a longtime Whatcom County community center.

The Talbot Group, which owns a majority of land within the Barkley Village area, said in a press release that they’re donating 6 acres of land to the Whatcom Family YMCA. The eventual goal of is to develop a new community YMCA in the urban village.

That site is located at the intersection of Woburn Street and Sunset Drive, just before Woburn turns into Hannegan Road.

Whatcom YMCA CEO Courtney Whitaker said the new partnership will allow them to move their operations out of their longtime home on N State Street.

The future YMCA is still in the planning stages, and Whitaker notes that community input will help shape what amenities will be included in their new space.
