WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Gas prices in Whatcom County have dropped below the five-dollar mark for the first time in months.

AAA reports that the average gallon of gas costs $4.99 as of Friday afternoon, June 26.

That’s nearly thirty cents cheaper than a week ago and marks the first time prices have dropped below five dollars since mid-March.

They’re still more than fifty cents higher than the same time last year.

Washington’s average is hovering around $5.24 as the third most expensive state in the country, while the national average recently dropped below $4.

The drop in prices follows an agreement between the U.S. and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
