WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More funding could be coming soon for families impacted by this month’s flooding in Whatcom County.

The Whatcom County Council will consider distributing some money collected through the Healthy Children’s Fund to families with young children.

Under the proposed resolution, up to $750,000 would be available for any impacted family with children under the age of 5.

The resolution’s authors claim that the Healthy Children’s Fund can be used in the event of a natural disaster because it promotes housing stability.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the fund, which narrowly passed a vote in 2022, raised property taxes by 19 cents per $1000 of assessed property value.

The fund is expected to generate $10 million a year for the next 8 years.
