Suspected arson at Ferndale park has no suspects, police seeking leads

BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) Ferndale Police are asking the public for information about a suspected arson incident.

Officers and Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a fire at Star Park picnic shelter around 2 this morning (Wed).

Crews found a trashcan attached to the picnic shelter engulfed in flames.

They were able to extinguish the fire before it spread.

Officers determined the fire was started intentionally and the bathroom structure nearby suffered additional damage.

Damage to the structures is estimated at over $5,000 and the picnic shelter remains closed.

Officers could not locate any suspects.
