WSDOT releases winter driving tips

BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) WSDOT is out with its winter driving tips as we gear up for the holiday season.

They say many mountain pass closures are caused by drivers going too fast, being inattentive or lacking proper equipment like chains.

Special chain enforcement patrols by State Patrol will be keeping tabs on mountain passes this winter.

Failure to obey a tire chains sign can result in a fine of up to $500.

More tips include leaving extra space between vehicles and making sure to not use cruise control.

WSDOT also encourages drivers to keep up to date with the most recent roadway information.
