WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – It’s time to be on the lookout for Asian giant hornet queens again.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture is asking residents to take part in the Spring Queen Visual Survey.

It’s a way to keep tabs on the invasive species that the department is working to eradicate.

The so-called “murder hornets” are deadly to honey bees and just a few hornets can destroy a bee colony in a few hours.

Whatcom County and lower British Columbia are the only places in North America where the invasive species has been found so far.

You can report Asian giant hornet sightings on the WSDA website.
