OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington’s secretary of state has proposed moving up the state’s Presidential Primary from May to March. Senate Bill 5333 and House Bill 1469 each would schedule the presidential primary for the second Tuesday in March every four years.

In a news release Thursday, Kim Wyman said moving the date up makes Washington a relevant battleground state again, and in her words, “voters would actually hear from candidates themselves instead of just their campaigns soliciting donations.”

Wyman, the only Republican secretary of state on the west coast, was elected  in 2012.
