KENDALL, Wash. – Peaceful Valley residents that Sheriff Bill Elfo calls “humble citizen heroes” are speaking out about last week’s shooting that left two deputies injured.
Cody Deeter is among the neighbors who leapt into action when they heard shotgun blasts last Thursday, February 10th.
“Got the kids inside and we went inside and got our weapons,” said Deeter.
He told Q-13 News that he watched in shock as a neighbor shot and wounded the two responding deputies.
“That’s when I step around the corner,” said Deeter. “I drop an entire magazine at this guy.”
He helped the deputies take cover in a garage while they waited for back-up.
“It was nerve-racking,” said Deeter. “My heart was definitely racing.”
Sheriff Elfo promises the neighbors who responded will be formally recognized.
The suspect remains jailed on $5 million dollars bail.
Both deputies have been released from the hospital and are recovering at home.
