FERNDALE, Wash. – More details have been released about a Ferndale murder suspect.
City Communications Officer Riley Sweeney says the suspect was arrested on Friday evening, January 28th, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Police had been looking for 23-year-old Miguel Angel Miranda following a shooting at a large party at the Ferndale American Legion early on Sunday, January 23rd.
The shooting left Jose Esquivel Hernandez dead.
The vehicle that Miranda was believed to be in was initially picked up by a license plate reader outside Kingsman, Arizona which alerted the Ferndale Police Department.
Ferndale Police and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office developed possible addresses for associates of Miranda and the Phoenix Police were able to take him into custody.
Miranda has prior court cases in Phoenix to resolve and then will be transported to Whatcom County to face charges of second-degree murder.
Miranda has a violent criminal past and is also a known gang member.
The Ferndale Police Department is seeking information about two witnesses to the initial shooting.
Their names are Jimmy Abitia and Michael Archouletta.
