FERNDALE, Wash. – Two men are dead following an apparent murder-suicide in Ferndale early Monday.

City of Ferndale Communications Officer Riley Sweeney says police were called to a home at 2000 Grandview Road just after midnight and found two men dead from gunshot wounds.

A witness told them that 44-year-old James Hayes kicked down the door and began fighting with 44-year-old Robert Beaugez.

Hayes then fatally shot Beaugez before turning the gun on himself.

Sweeney says more details will be released as the investigation allows.

According to court records, Hayes’ firearms privileges were revoked in 1995 when he was 17, but he had them reinstated in 2019.

Beaugez also has a brief criminal record, including an unlawful firearms possession charge.
