The Washington Huskies are headed to the College Football Playoffs

They edged out Oregon 34-31 on Friday to win the Pac-12 championship and what seems like the final Pac-12 game ever.

Dillon Johnson ran for over 150 yards and 2 TD’s, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, he also threw for a third TD.

The College Football Playoff committee selected the Huskies as the second seed in the nation.

They’ll face third-seeded Texas in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in a rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl, where the Huskies took a 27-20 win.

The winner of Texas-Washington will face the winner of Michigan-Alabama in the national championship game.

Anacortes High School capped off their undefeated season in the best way possible over the weekend.

The Seahawks beat top-seeded Tumwater 60-30 at Husky Stadium on Saturday to win their first-ever football state title.

Anacortes set a 2A state championship record for points scored in a title game.

Tumwater allowed 9.5 points per game on the season going into the match.

Senior Seahawks QB Rex Larsen threw for 346 yards and four TD’s.

Junior RB Brock Beaner added 135 yards and four TD’s on the ground in the win.

One of those TD’s came on defense, as his brother Brady blocked a punt that fell right into Brock’s hands near the endzone.

The Seattle Mariners made another big offseason move to shake-up their roster.

They sent outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales and first baseman Evan White to Atlanta in exchange for right-handers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips.

Kelenic batted .253 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs in 105 games for the M’s last season.

He missed a chunk of time after breaking his foot from kicking a water cooler after a strikeout.

The M’s have now purged their team of three of their top five strikeout leaders at the plate from last season.

Running down the high school basketball scoreboard from over the weekend in Whatcom County…

The Mt Baker boys lost by a point to Orcas Island, but the girls’ team avenged them with a 17-point win over Orcas.

The Nooksack Valley girls beat Archbishop Murphy.

The Blaine boys fell to Archbishop Murphy.

The Ferndale boys lost to Marysville-Getchell and their girls’ team lost to Jackson.

The Lynden Christian boys beat King’s but the girls lost to Meadowdale.

And the Squalicum girls beat Kingston in a sound 16-point win.
