A legendary Western Washington University athlete and long-time Ferndale High School wrestling coach has passed away.
Western’s athletic department says Lee Andersen died at the age of 72 on August 19th after a battle with prostate cancer.
Andersen was named Western’s Athlete of the Year in 1971 and 1972, was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1982, and was named the school’s Wrestler of the Century in 1999.
He went on to teach and coach at Ferndale High School for 40 years, and his Golden Eagles won the Class AA state title in 1992.
