Kingston man found guilty of multiple felonies for January 6th actions

FILE - Rioters loyal to President Donald Trump rally at the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021. Court arguments have begun in the efforts to use an insurrection clause in the U.S. Constitution to bar former President Donald Trump from running for his old job again. Testimony on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, is focusing on whether the violent Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol was an insurrection as defined by the 14th Amendment and whether Trump’s role in it meets the provision’s threshold for being barred from public office. KINGSTON, WA. – (KGMI.com) A Washington man was found guilty on Tuesday, November 21st, of assaulting law enforcement along with other felony and misdemeanor charges during the January 6th breach of the U.S. capitol.

39-year-old Taylor James Johnatakis from Kingston was convicted of seven charges, three of them felonies, in Washington, D.C. by a federal jury.

The felony charges are obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers.

He was one of the first rioters to reach the southwest staircase in the capitol.

Johnatakis led a group up the staircase and, using a megaphone, commanded fellow rioters to move against a police line that met them, yelling “pack it in!” repeatedly.

He and a few others also used bike racks to push forcibly into the line of police, resulting in a police officer’s injury.

Johnatakis will be sentenced at a later date.
