MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – The FAA and NTSB are investigating after a small plane crashed into the Skagit River near the I-5 bridge Saturday evening.

Witnesses who called Skagit County 911 said the plane had crashed nose first into the river around 6pm on Saturday.

Officers and the Washington State Patrol were able to locate and help the 75-year-old pilot out of the aircraft.

They confirmed the pilot was the only occupant and that the plane was secured to the riverbank pending removal.

The pilot only had minor injuries.
