WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. — A growing number of elephant seals are showing up on Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands.
Scientists say this could be a sign of warming waters as a result of global climate change and as time goes on, these animals could be a common sight in the Puget Sound.
According to the Seattle Times, representatives from NOAA and the Marine Mammal Stranding Network said a female elephant seal came ashore on southern Whidbey Island and gave birth to a pup about a decade ago.
The population has been growing ever since.
