WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County’s flood response is transitioning to a long-term recovery process.
The Sheriff’s Department Division of Emergency Managements reports more than 700 homes were damaged and many remain uninhabitable.
About 40 people are still in emergency shelters.
A site for flood damaged materials remains open on Halverstick Road and a second location will be opened soon.
A second debris site is being set up and details on that will be release soon.
Residents and businesses unable to pull out the damaged materials for disposal should call 360-788-5303 for assistance.
The Sheriff’s Office says they conducted hundreds of rescues during the flood, including people pulled from flooded homes and others from vehicles caught on flooded roads.
Some of those drivers went around “road closed” barriers and had to be rescued.
The Whatcom Community Foundation has set up a Resiliency Fund to help those impacted by the floods.
