BLAINE, WA. – (KGMI.com) Blaine Police officers are getting a boost to their mental health after receiving a state grant focused on officer wellness.

The Northern Light reports the State Criminal Justice Training Commission awarded $30,000 to the department to renovate two of their station’s rooms and to provide counseling services.

One room is filled with new workout equipment to encourage physical health, while the other focuses more on comfort with armchairs and an electric fireplace.

A wellness liaison with the department said it is an important step to help officers process the trauma they are exposed to, with an end goal of healthier officers contributing to a healthier community.
