Thirty-one days. Thirty-one people. One last mile — and we want you to walk it with us.
Friday, October 30
8:45am — Meet up at the Whatcom Humane Society Thrift Store on Northwest Avenue
9:00am — We walk, one mile up Northwest Ave
Finish — Mt. Baker Imaging, for their annual walk-in mammogram day
No registration. No sign-up. Just show up and walk. There’s plenty of parking at the thrift store.
Why this route
We’ve spent all month telling you to go get screened. So on the last day, we’re going to walk you there.
One mile from the thrift store to Mt. Baker Imaging — and it just so happens the 30th is their walk-in day. That’s the whole point of this campaign, standing at the finish line.
The mammogram party
Once a year, Mt. Baker Imaging opens its doors for a walk-in mammogram day. No appointment needed. This year it lands on October 30 — the same day we finish our 31st mile right at their front door.
When: Friday, October 30, 8:00am to 1:00pm
Appointment: Not needed. Walk in anytime in that window.
Patrice will be there: 11:00am to 1:00pm
First 100 people get a goodie bag.
One thing to know: this isn’t a free screening. Your insurance will be billed the same as any other mammogram. What the walk-in day saves you is the appointment — no scheduling, no waiting weeks, no finding a slot that works. Just walk in.
What’s happening along the way
This is not a quiet walk.
● A special performance from the Meridian High School Band
● The WCC Cheerleaders are turning out for us
● Very special cookies from Slice of Heaven
● And a few other surprises we’re not telling you about yet
Getting back to your car
We’ve got transportation back to the thrift store for anyone who wants it. Park at the start, walk the mile, and we’ll get you back. No need to walk it twice unless you want to.
A note about shirts
Already picked yours up? Wear it. We want a sea of pink walking up Northwest Ave.
Requested one but haven’t grabbed it yet? You can pick it up at the walk.
Fair warning, though: any shirts that haven’t been claimed by the 30th are going to other participants at the walk. So come get yours.
Rain or shine.
Cancer doesn’t care about the weather, and neither do we.
Come walk it with us
Run it, walk it, roll it, take your time. There’s no pace and no finish-line clock. One mile is one mile.
Bring your friends, bring your mom, bring the person you’ve been nagging about their mammogram all month. Especially that one.
Run for them. Get screened for you.
