OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington is among the worst states for home break-ins.

Security website A Secure Life ranked Washington as the 10th worst state for burglaries.

New Mexico was found to have the most break-ins and the rest of the bottom 10 were filled out with southern states.

The northeast, and specifically New York, had the least break-ins per capita.

Most of New York’s population is in urban areas with apartments and high rises which are less conducive to break-ins than houses on larger property.

The site recommends people lock doors and windows, get to know your neighbors, keep valuables inside and invest in a home security system.
