A lot of us have noticed how much prices have gone up on a lot of things, like groceries. But it’s not always the price on the sticker that means you’re paying more…sometimes it’s ‘shrinkflation!’ What the heck is that? Well, companies don’t always want to raise prices, so they shrink the product size instead. So you shell out the same amount, but you’re getting less for that money than you used to. This downsizing of products is known as shrinkflation. Whereas ‘inflation’ means you pay more to get the same amount, shrinkflation means you pay the same to get less.
And it’s happening on every aisle…cereal, peanut butter, potato chips, OJ, paper towels. The list goes on. In fact, there’s an entire community dedicated to shrinkflation on Reddit. So keep an eye out for it at the store, and don’t be afraid to switch brands to get more for your money!
