A 50-year-old attorney in Minnesota posted a list of advice she wishes someone her age gave HER when she was 20. Do you have any to add?
1. Be kind to others. Or at least courteous. When you think about it, it’s really not THAT much effor, and it makes you happier in the end. Hand out random compliments to people whenever you can, and try to be as understanding and patient as possible.
2. Don’t spend too much time try to fit in and don’t dwell on the opinions of others.try to fit in too much or dwell on other people’s opinions. Stay true to yourself. Also, never make a major life decision just to please others.
3. Never stay in a bad relationship. It can and will be SO HARD to leave, but it’s worth it in the end.
4. Don’t make money a major focus. Remember that all your stuff is just stuff, it’s replaceable. In the end, stuff is not as important as the people in your life.
5. Don’t make snap judgments about people. You don’t know what’s going on in their life. Have patience and give people a break now and then.
6. Don’t beat yourself up all the time. Do what you can to fix your mistakes, then move forward. If you hold onto guilt, it’s just toxic energy that will effect your happiness.
7. Don’t dwell on aging. Life can be better at 50 than it is at 20.
