Summer Hacks: Tricks for surviving the heat!

Summer weather is here and the thermometer will be north of 80 degrees this weekend. We thought this would be a good time to share these handy summer life hacks to help us survive the heat:

* Buckle your seat belt when you leave the car, so it won’t burn when you come back. Nobody likes getting their thigh branded by the hot metal buckle!

* Put a beer coozie over your gear shift when it gets too hot to touch.

* Make aloe ice cubes. You’ll probably get at least one sunburn this summer, so be prepared. Fill an ice cube tray with aloe vera. Then use them to cool off while mending your beet-red skin.

* Freeze a sponge. Soak a fresh sponge in water, put it in a baggie, and stash it in the freezer. When it gets crazy hot, take it out and rest it on your forehead or wrists. You’ll cool down without getting drenched, because the sponge will soak in the moisture as it warms.

* When you swim at the beach, roll your valuables up in a clean diaper. You can leave them there all day and no one will go near them.

* Sprinkle baby powder on your skin before going to the beach so the sand doesn’t stick to you.

* Stand your freezer pops straight up when you put them in the freezer. They’ll be easier to cut open.

* Get bottled beverages colder faster by wrapping them in a wet paper towel and putting them in the freezer. Just be sure not to forget them there!

* Avoid sticky hands by putting a cupcake liner around your popsicle stick to catch the drips.

* Try creamy baby oil instead of bug spray. People swear that it works just as well, and it smells better.

* Put dryer sheets in your shoes at night to keep them from smelling like sweaty feet.

* Make your own lawn sprinkler from a two-liter pop bottle. This one shows up on a lot of DIY sites. Just poke some holes in it and screw a garden hose to the top.
